I need to send notifications from a perl script I am building. I can use a system call
for mailx. But I am wondering if there is a better way. Are there am\ny modules or
packages which would address this?

I am wanting to get a unix directory file listing and put it into a Perl array. I
attempted
$date = system "ls -al | grep filename.txt";
However all this did was send it to .
What am I missing?
