For those of you who have any cause to come spend money in Lancaster
County, just a reminder! A boycott has been underway in Lancaster County
for some time now. The representatives of the county at the state level
have been able to hold up any and almost all legislation that might

I wrote earlier asking for feedback on Eukunuba since the breeder I was
getting my great dane puppy was feeding that. After hearing the positive
replies, I bought 40 lbs, opened the bag and stored it in my new storage
container in preparation of my new pup's arrival.
Well...after choosing my pup
Hi John,
Five months is an approximation. Much has to do with the mental and
physical development of the puppy. There will be exceptions either side of
five months. Nothing is ever cast in stone:-))

Hi Jean,
Pups naturally want to be clean!
I'll tell Wilma that:-) She can be a good girl about going outside just
that sometimes she likes to roll in it. This is the fondue puppy who dips
herself in mudholes. Why is it that Murphy's law makes a grubby puppy a
heavy coated one:-))

You bring up an interesting point which I consider to be a dirt gene. I
have a male that is very clean in many regards. He hates to get his feet

Martha, I wasn't aware that the question can we eat it? ever came up!
I think mine go on the assumption that EVERYTHING is edible!
Andie and the pig-dogs Tugboat and Steamboat, who just ate breakfast and
now want to go outside and eat gumballs from the sweet gum tree.

Hi,
I would think Food Inspectors would veto selling live animals in food

I went thru this very same thing with Fulton, age 16 months several months ago. Watch
for infection here. Fulton licked his paws so much that the front paws got infected
neccessitating the need for strong anit biotics.

Hi Jenn,
You're just going to have to time his feeding and bowel movement rituals
and clean up promptly after him. Obviously your crate training efforts are
not working and when leaving him I presume you are giving him plenty of
opportunity to toilet outside first. Most puppies have a bowel

Hello fellow L folk. Since we are discussing furniture, thought I would ask
for suggestions to help me stop Cindy from eating a spot of my baseboard .
Since Hazel's death, six month old Cindy has become bored. I and seven
year old Clover just can't keep her as entertained as Hazel did. I
Personally, I think one agility day just for Berners and then perhaps two
open days is a great idea. The facility is already rented, at least one
judge is already there, and yes, agility trials are great money makers. The
site would have to be either in a large populated area or one that had
I'm sure the club would really appreciate the dollars a multi-day agility trial
would pull in. IMHO, it doesn't seem practical for a specialty event, though.
Agility trials are very labor intensive, as I'm sure you know! There's so many
other things going on at a specialty that most people want

Hello everyone!
My six month old pup Rudy is perfect to date and we love him more and more
each day!
I need some advice on cooling him off! Even in the winter he panted all
night unless the window was open in the bedroom. The hot humid summers are
soon upon us and I am already trying to

I have owned a kuvasz for eight years and own(ed) two bernese. A kuvasz
(like a pyr) is a livestock guardian breed. The livestock guard breeds
include the Akbash Dog (which is used to protect sheep from grizzly near
Glacier National Park), the Anatolian Sheperd, the Kangal Dog (or
Karbash), the

I am wondering if anyone has thoughts on paw licking.. My almost 2 year
old Berner boy is licking his paws (the underside on and around the pads)
most all of the time when he is laying down resting. At times he becomes

Our 14 week pup Echo has taken to hoovering up almost everything she sees while
we are out walking, be it litter, sticks, stones, grass, leaves, etc
etc. I know that dogs are prone to this and that this will always be a
part of life with a dog but she seems to take it to ridiculous heights; she'll
Just had the ultra sound done and saw a minimum of 6 but our Vet felt there
was more as he did not clip her all the way so he could get clear to the
ends of each horn. He palpated her good after the ultra sound and was sure
he felt at least 7 or 8.
We are very pleased as this will be our first

Hi Karyn and the listers,
I was reading this article because I very strong felt: Of course you should
spent as much time as possible with your dog.
May be someone will try to frighten you with this article? Berners are known
as very friendly with both kids and babies, normally. If your Berner

also I have read that to make the reward for going outside realy

you should be present (at least the first few times) to make that reward

Stick with that

Here's another perspective: I always try to educate people about the breed
if they ask, but why is it so terrible if they think your dog is a mixed breed?
Maybe they won't want one!
In my experience, most people's comments and questions about the dogs are not
said with malicious intent.
Hi Beverly Dear listers,
Interesting post about the pronounciation of Berner sennenhund. I have no
idea what a Georgian accent sounds like - is it like Scarlett O'Hara's?
You are absolutely right: saying bear- then -ner is as about as close
as you can get to the European pronounciation of
