Karen,
Thank you so much for sharing this update with us, and I made sure to
write them back to thank them for their decision! Educational seminars
are a terrific idea!!

I, too, wrote a note of thanks to Cabelas to commend them on their decision
to discontinue selling puppies in their Michigan store. How nice it would
be if everyone who wrote a note to them asking them to discontinue the
practice would now thank them for their responsive reaction to our
Hi all, We have become a Honda family primarily because of our dogs. My
vehicle of choice is a CRV, my husband the Pilot. The CRV does fine to take
the dogs to close shows and outings. The back seat folds flat ,so you don't
have to be bothered with taking seats out etc. When it is folded the dogs
Hello all!
I'm an almost two month old lurker who has very much enjoyed reading (and
learning!) from all your posts. I am brand new to the Berner world and am
enjoying it very much, trying to absorb as much as I can from you experts
about this wonderful breed. We acquired our new pup (from a
Ah...the beginning of the 'tween years! My Maddie at 17 weeks ate the entire front of
an old sofa in just the few minutes her dad was ignoring her while eating his own
dinner. Three feet of fabric and stuffing...as the sofa had originally been in my
in-laws' kitchen/family room, we figured it
I just wanted to say a big thank-you to everyone who
gave me great advice on dealing with my new puppy,
Vinny, and his big brother, Ringo, when it comes to
bones, toys, etc.
It has been eight days now since the two have been
together, and they seem to have found a groove that
is right for them.
Just a quick reminder that Jill Rudkowski at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at
Harvard Univ. is still seeking DNA samples from BMDs to further research on the
histiocytoses.
Because Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (similar to systemic histio.) is similar in
Bernese and humans, research findings
I have to say my favorite dog hauling vehicle is the Lexus RX300 (and i'm on
my second one -- the first one was totalled in a massive 5-car interstate
accident which I walked away from without a scratch or even a bruise).
This midsize SUV gets 19+ mpg (even in the city traffic) and 22 on the

Good Morning:
I last sent you all a note in April -- we were happy that Mick was
doing well, wondering about the effects of the chemotherapy for his
pancreatic cancer, and uncertain about the future. We all know that in
situations such as this the advice to take one day at a time is easier
While on my lunch, I was scanning the news and ran across this article on
cnn.com:

It amazes me sometimes at how a person can be this cruel to dogs.

Hi all,
I just had to writeif for no other reason than to help myself calm my
frazzled nerves. We just took my girl Jude (2yo) to a park with trails to
visit the breeder we got her from and her litter mate Abbey. We got to the
end of the boardwalk, about a 20 minute walk. Up to that point,
I would like to just put this out there for all that may find themselves in
a position of knowledge or action in a potential Berner Rescue. The BMDCA
has a National Rescue Chair I believe it is still Kathy Deyo in Orofino, ID.
Of course, each local club should also have a rescue coordinator.
Lisa,
I know this is the way it's working now, but there has to be a better solution. People
won't always know what person to contact, which club has jurisdiction, or if we have a
person in another breed involved, then they wouldn't have a clue as to where to go to
contact anyone.
I don't

I've used tinyurl to make the link shorter. This listing is for a
beautiful girl who is in a shelter in Abingdon, VA. They're calling her a
mix, and she certainly is missing the white on the face, but since we know
purebred Berners can be marked that way, perhaps

This is the Berner (or Berner mix) that we've all been talking about. Now
it's time to do something if we can.
He was found in a shelter in Burlington Iowa and taken to Quincy Illinois
for fostering. Quincy in on the Illinois/Missouri Border half way between
the quad cities of Davenport and St.
Hi everyone,
Thanks so much to those who sent such kind notes of support about our ordeal
with Jude and her scary bout of heat exhaustion. I don't think I've ever
been so scared for a pup in my entire life. I'm so pleased to say that we
have her home with us now. She is quite sedated from the
I am seeking advice from you, dear berner lovers. Our 3 year old Berner
mix, Hubert, is worrying us. It all started on Wednesday, when he
started severely limping in the morning. He would not walk on his right
rear leg at all. He was prostrated and would not greet us as he usually
does, and stayed
As I receive posts in digest form, this may have already been answered but
here goes. I'm the BMDCA
National Rescue Rehome Coordinator. My name, e-mail address and phone
number are posted on many
websites, on the AKC website, the BMDCA website, and in Dog Fancy and Dog
World magazines. On

Hi all,
I am planning to purchase a Mars Coat king for my two guys, but I'm not sure what size
I should get. I think I should get two- one for the ears and one for the rest of
their big hairy bodies.
I would like some advice on which size I should purchase for these guys.

Oh! Oh! Oh! :: raises hands like a madwoman::
Funny you should mention this, but, I just got mine that I ordered in the
mail today. I got an 18 blade double wide and it works great. I am not
sure if the Berner has the double coat the leo has, but, it works great!
I hope that is of some help
