When you are at it. Were the genres case sensitive before? Somehow i
only noticed that recently. Alternrock or AlternRock are 2 different
genres now.

Yes this is a new change. They were case-insensitive before.

A small bug in the web UI:
On any of the 'All Songs' pages there's a large 'multiple CDs' icon
above the text links. It has a URL that opens a new window/tab, but
doesn't work. I'm guessing that it may correspond to the album artwork
displayed on album listing pages.

I donĀ“t know if it makes sense to read Tags case sensitive.
There is no standard but a way most applications handle it.
Here you can see that every genre has more or less a number:

Now if i open an album with wrongly spelled genre Tag in mp3ta
This change was because we used to ignore non-ascii chars too, a side
effect of that fix is that you now get 2 different genres or artists.
At least it's now easy to determine where you need to fix your tags.

I never had a problem with a genre Tag but i can imagine that
