The tray only says starting service.
I've tried to uninstall and install but with same result.

It was solved by installing to another directory.
I didn't find any registry settings or other things that would cause
problems connected to the old directory. I deleted the directory, but
still got the error after a fresh install.

didn't see this in any log so I found it out the hard way.

Are you running SC on a WHS? The default behaviour on WHS is service. On all
other Windows version it has not been changed.

I had the same issue as joggs, nightlies over the last few days got into
a 'starting' loop that didn't finish.
I then uninstalled and deleted every squeezecenter related file I could
find and installed 7.4-25434.exe to my XP PC.

Michael, I use ESET Smart Security antivirus and personal firewall. I
have used this for some time and it hasn't caused an issue until the
7.4 beta. I have the same issue with SC7.4 not starting with both the
firewall and antivirus turned off.

Hmm... we recently get repeated reports about issues with ESET:
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=11282
Would an old version (eg. 7.3.2) still be ok on your system?

7.3.2 loads OK. 7.3.3 seems to have similar issues to 7.3.4.

As just reported in the bug listed above, I have made some progress with
ESET and 7.4 v75453. If I add exceptions for squeezecenter.exe,
scanner.exe and mysql.exe to ESET (not the normal port limited
exceptions), I still get error messages in the Windows event viewer
about perl failing, but SC wi

There has been a bug in yesterdays build when running SC as a service. But
it should be fixed in today's. Did you try it?

I'm currently on 7.4 v75453 - by today's I assume you mean SVN? If so,
will give it a go tomorrow when it's available on the nightly download
page.

Did you do a complete fresh install (i.e. run cleanup.exe first)?

Thanks, I've run cleanup.exe, uninstalled and reinstalled 7.4, but still
getting the same errors. I think I'd better stick with 7.3.2 for a
while.

Looks like I'm having the same problem with the current nightly,
SqueezeCenter-7.3.3-25969.exe.
After install, SqueezeTray never appears to finish starting. The log

I almost thought so :-(

There's an issue with ESET and the way we verify whether opening our ports
was successful. Can you make sure ESET isn't blocking your ports? What
other system software would you

Thanks for the feedback. That's great news for the ESET users.

Who am I on 'LAST.F
The ESET startup problem seems to have returned in the last couple of
days. I'm guessing this is due to some automatic program update,
although all I am aware of is the virus signature updates.
I'm running ESET Antivirus v4.0.424.0 with SC. SC 7.4-26367 which shows
"starting SC" for ~30 second
