LMS is single threaded (i.e. one process handles all the GUI, WebUI and
feeding audio to players etc. some plugins may start other processes)
but if transcoding is needed other processes (not threads
The OS or runtime library usually starts several background threads even
if the application code is doing its work on a single thread in the
process.

That question was in the context of the discussion about memory usage.
Yes, LMS is
Hi,
I am a big fan from the 7.9 build. One of the best feature is the
capability to tune the LMS for library bigger than 50k tracks. That
feature makes a big speed step for me. Right now LMS 7.9 have the same
speed like the old LMS with mySQL. The LMS 7.9 used at my windows box
approximate 500MB
My question is, is it possible to add another option like more than 100K
tracks with machine that have 8 GB RAM or more?
One more question: what problem would you like to address by using more
memory? Is there something particular you'd like to speed up?

Hi,
I take a look at the task manager from windows and see that the
squeezebox process alocate right now 900MB RAM. I don't want address a
problem. Its pretty fine but Better is the enemy of good - Voltaire
My library is round about 180k tracks. A good mix between
mp3/flac/HDAudio FLAC and DTS.

Heh... 900MB? Wow... I get concerned when mine is using 200MB :-).
Letting LMS use more
I just checked and the SB process on my system is using 371MB.
library.db is 519MB for 329K tracks.

Hi,
I load it as a service with a dedicated user. Need that because this
user is able to access the data at the NAS.

well depends on your system setup.
You wrote about W2k8r2 as a Server and when using a Server (a 500
license) you should know how you set your Server up.
So yes it really does matter.
