Slow start-up... is it here to stay?
As long as we can't reproduce it or don't know the reason for the delay, yes.
But you might have seen the other thread (can't connect to web interface or
similar). Could you please follow up in there? There are two log files in
there: do you see any
No. The computer that SC runs from is the fastest computer I have in the
house. Softsqueeze isn't running, and I never run iTunes except when I
plug in my iPod at which time I immediately shut down iTunes (I HATE
iTunes!) via Task Damager. I don't presently have antivirus on that
machine (I just
So you don't have iTunes updater plugin? That starts iTunes in the
backgrund and sometimes provokes the exact same behavior on my system
(to be fair it's not iTunes updater, but iTunes itself, which
crashes).
Also: I didn't mean slow computer but slow internet connection (like

Do you have a slow internet connection active on that PC? Win seems to
have bad scheduling related to that. I've got a system that
dramatically slows down all loopback traffic as soon as I connect a
line with a bad ping.
Do you have SoftSqueeze running? Another resource hog on my Win

I too am experiencing a slow start when I try to open Squeezecenter
after it has been shut down. I start Squeezecenter and then try to
open it and it takes upwards of 10-15 minutes to load.

Do you see the same issue if you don't open FF? Or use IE instead? We've seen
cases where FF would use 100% CPU when SC is loaded. If this is the case for
you: are you using some add-ons like

Would the behaviour improve if you replaced copyResampled() with
copyResized() in Slim::Web::Graphics? That's not a solution, just one
more data point. The resulting artwork won't be as smooth as with
copyResampled().

I think I'll just add music less frequently for the time being, as I
know next to nothing about coding Perl.
No need to know perl: we added an option in Settings/Advanced/Performance
to use a faster Resize algorithm instead of the nicer Resample. Please
give this a try.

Is it only slow while scanning your music, or even when idle?

Hi Andy,
The churning occurs even after a full scan is complete and saved, after
reboot, restart, etc.
Yes, it occurs at startup.

Squeezecenter essentially freezes up while loading. It will load the
left pane fairly (but not so) quickly, but the right pane (the
playlist?) just hangs at Loading and that freezes up the Squeezebox.
Currently, SC has

Well, yes, because I fiddle with my directory structure constantly.
Point being is, for me, this is new behavior I have not encountered
until recently.

It's slow all he time. Regardless of whether it is scanning, idle, or
when I try, for example, to click through my music folders. It even
taes forever just to load icons.
