I've just checked in Alan Young's patch to improve sync between all
models of players.
It should now be possible to keep players in perfect sync, even while
playing long radio streams. A large amount of code was changed to
make this happen, so some extra testing is in order. If you've ever
Let me add my voice to those noting the synch improvements in 7.0.
I had been running SlimServer (since 5.4.1) on XP pro since I bought my
first Squeezebox in late 2004. Some months back I decided to give Linux
a shot on this dedicated server. All it does is run SlimServer (now
SqueezeCenter) a
My guess is the problem is the SB1s. In terms of maintaining
synchronization, this is the hardest case - SliMP3s are actually
better. And I must admit that I have done less testing with SB1s that
with other player types. I would certainly not rule out a logic bug in
this case.
Do you always have
Just created bug report 6864 and uploaded an (enormous) log file.
To quickly answer your questions above:
Do you always have both SB1s in the sync-group when the problems arise?
Yes.
Do you know if your configuration is using WAV or MP3 in this case? No
idea -- it's doing whatever the default
First of all: an *enormous* thank you to all the people that have made
this possible.
Just tried it yesterday and I have to say that I've been moving from
bedroom to living room with a big grin on my face, back and forth, for
the good part of an hour... :D (I'm a child at heart, I know).

Is the 7 beta at a fairly reliable stage? I usually shy away from beta

than play with new features but I have two squeezeboxes constantly in

6.5.4/5 is driving me

When it comes to core functionality, I'd say yes. There's still some work in
progress, though, which may touch you or not: plugin API (if you want to run
3rd party plugins), the new skin (you can always use the now "Classic" skin),

RandomMix is a stock plugin - no problem. AudioScrobble and MIS are 3rd party.
I do have a version for

This is excellent news - I'll give it a go pronto. Could I ask what
happens now when you sync to a player that is already playing? Does it
still cause that player to restart

The CVS version of AudioScrobbler at SourceForge supports SS7. There's
no direct download link to a packaged release, though, so it's to be
considered a work in progress I think (like SS itself).
Rest assured that Lazy Search works, too. I'm sure it was just a typing
error that caused you to omit

Actually, isn't it still an Alpha? :-)
(it seems pretty usuable for an Alpha, though)

There is some discus
I started running 7.0 last week. I have 3 nodes to sync (2 SB's and a
Softsqueeze.) All three are audible at the same time from some spots in
the house. I have been syncing Pandora, mostly.
So far, mostly good. Individual songs will go out of sync on the
softsqueeze but subsequent songs will sync
I guess that you do not yet have the sync changes for SoftSqueeze, as
they have not been checked-in yet, so it will be getting
resync-instructions that it does not act on. Also, my own measurments
suggest that PC sound cards can drift at around 1ms/s, whereas an SB3
seems to manage 1ms/minute, or

Are those original SBs or SB2/3s?

So far so good. My SB3 is in a room which often suffers from poor
wireless reception. I was listening to the SB3 and my Transporter

They are SB3's.

I'd love the FW82 and synch changes to get pushed back into the 6.5.5
release.
Without seeming ungrateful, it's what I plan to remain on for some
time.
7.0 seems to have been in development for quite a while so most of the
useful fixes ported back into 6.5.x
While 7.0 might be more useful for b
No, the sync fixes are only for 7.0. If you don't like the new skin
(which is still being developed btw!) you can use /Classic.

The new sync is great :) I used it yesterday and tried it on a
combination that would normally not have worked well - one wired
(ethernet) Squeezebox 3 and one SB3 on wireless. It kept them in sync
both for playing individual music and also for streaming radio very
well!
I'll play more this weeke

I am seeing exactly this issue on SlimServer 6.5.4 with Softsqueeze
3.4.. That would seem to rule out the changes in SlimServer 7 as b
The following preferences affect the operation of the synchronization
algorithms (defaults in parenthesis):
*syncPower* (0): Should turning the power of one player in a sync-group
on or off effect the other players in the group?
*syncVolume* (0): Should changing the volume of one player in a

I am inclined to think that the defaults should be adjusted so that they
work for most users most of the the time. This probably means increasing
the syncBufferThreshold default to 10kB and the syncStartDelay to
250ms.
These should be sufficient for most wireless environments, I guess.
Feedback r
I have just comitted a change to add setting of synchronization
preferences via the Web-UI. I have also slightly edited the
documentation post a couple of entries earlier in this thread to
reflect the latest reality.
Be warned, however, that if it is decided to change from using seconds
to millis
The sync preferences have now been changed to milliseconds.

I've had a few problems setting this up (Me not you) however, Alien BBC
now seems very stable and syncs fine over my wired LAN.
This facility is the "must have" for me to buy extra SBs so I'm really
pleased that it works.

PS I am also really enjoying the default SqueezecentRE skin.

IME the synchronisation of wired physical Squeezeboxes is spot on now
and I'm really pleased about that. I suspect I'm pushing my luck but
have the synchronisation patches been applied to Softsqueeze?
