Hi all, I've recieved a bunch of questions recently from potential
GSoC applicants and also those interested in developing for Blender
outside of GSoC. So thought It might be of value to others looking to
do Blender development

Hi LetterRip,
Konrad your proposal sounds good but as you note you will need a bit
more details on schedule.
Thank you! I'm working on the missing parts of my proposal ;)
Something to consider if it isn't in the library already is dynamic
loading and unloading of level of detail textures.
Mobile Blending sounds amazing (I'm picking up an iPad for
development soon, and would LOVE to use Blender on it). My
only concern there: Multitouch should, I think, be a required
deliverable.
Blender on mobile devices would indeed be cool. But with regards to
the iPad, my understanding is

with generic scripting languages on the iPhone/iPad/etc. If they did,
it would be a back-door for developing arbitrary applications
Hi,
I've developed a patch for the UNC path problem which allow Blender to run
from a UNC path.
See
http://projects.blender.org/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=21836group_id
=9atid=498 for details.
Where would I look to add support for UNC paths in the open and save
dialogs?
Regards,
Rob.
Hi Harley,
What we need, you and I, is to find a dev with commit rights that has an
interest in these issues...
And you've found one :) - see my previous email.

Yay my first patch! I hope I am not the only man on the planet interested in
that. In any case, I managed to get blender compiled with cmake on MinGW but
I get strange issues with the display plus not python found message at the
start. Any suggestions welcome!
damn, forgot the link...

This is a really small patch to make clear what conversion we are
using and to add 2 more conversion for further use.

Hi,
ok, I guess if we can make sure that the user normally doesn't have to
set anything and we don't have to change any system settings we should
be ok.
Remember that we do want to still provide a single directory install
(zip file) where the user can run blender without needing to set up
Hi Sergey,
I think it's a bad idea to clear points during evaluation. It's
unpredictable from a user point of view, and can give problems with
the dependency graph and threading. Second, you still have to check it
on evaluation because linked objects may change type (or the object
itself may be

Hi,
I was investigating this bug report today [#21760] Snap to Origin
doesn't work [1]. Its behaviour is a bit odd, in edit mode and object
mode basically it's the same as scaling the selection to zero. Current
behaviour with armatures in pose mode is even stranger, it tries to
put the selected
