Would there be anyone against using the pixar USD format:

After looking at it, it seems pretty robust, the format is open like what
was said previously and best of all it looks like it can fit right on top
of blender's in my opinion.
So will this list continue to
Hi William,
Your message arrived loud and clear!
Of course we stick to keeping FBX IO to work, the discussion is mostly about:
- How to keep it maintained well, should we limit the scope a bit (design issue)
- Who could be found to work on it (we have a dev fund to support that)
What you (and

It would be a great start for sure, but other engines and clients/studios would
have to follow suit too for the move to be successful.
The problem is that the entire games industry is using FBX as the de facto
interchange format, so even if we do get flawless Collada support for all 3
major
Hi all,
Please let's end the thread now. This list is to help getting Blender
developed, not to agree on everything in detail.
Both FBX and COLLADA are being supported in Blender, nobody suggests to drop
this.
We are only interested in getting the best IO possible. We'll check on Juan's
Hi,
The time has time to do 2.77 Testbuild 1.
Information for platform maintainers:
- Build from master branch, SHA 4b42a4908633989969f1f266c36c9cbca9fd9a99
- Use latest locales and addons revisions for this build
Suggested name: blender-2.77-testbuild1-
Notes:
- Keep Cycles CUDA binaries
I love you guys. I've spent 8 years invested in Blender with my company.
I fight so hard as an advocate, all interns come to me with Maya/Max
training and I make them learn Blender. I'm constantly on job sites and
99% of the time there I'm the only employer in the whole of the UK looking
for

Hi.
Seems i used c++0 feature which does not exist in your compiler. Will
commit a fix soon (in the middle of other change atm, so wouldn't happen
immediately).

Hi all,
Sorry for all the commotion, I really did not expect that when writing
the original mail! I needed to vent some frustration about FBX, but I
had no intention of dropping support.
I’m still maintaining current FBX add-on, and will keep doing this.
Further more, I’m obviously available
Committed fix, please try again!

@Brian
That's definitely good news, I am sure there are more devs like you out
there who could help get this done. I looked tat the opengl format but like
@Juan said it's pretty opengl specific so would be pretty useless for
things outside of opengl world. Does Ton or Campbell or anyone else have
Install script ?
Simply remove the filter for distutils in the install patterns, python
is ad hoc
featurecomplete after c being compiled, just blender install does not
take it over ;)

Hi,
+1 for this on my side. It would simplify greatly distributing some of the
add-on I make to my clients by including a small install script.
Here falling back to system python works even with minor version number
mismatch. Maybe you suffer from a 32/64bit mismatch problem, you
absolutely

I think Xavier was talking about running `pip`.

Yes, if I understand correctly that's all it would take: a one-line patch
for Blender to
