In late April, Ontbirds was alerted to the presence of three Whooping
Cranes that were reported to have entered the province via Fort Erie and
headed north to central Ontario. After spending some time between the area
west of Algonquin and the Bruce Peninsula, the trio now appears to have

I noticed that nobody reported Today on the Black-backed Woodpecker.
We found the bird this afternoon in the same area as per earlier reports.
The bird, by the way looks quite beautiful.

The Black-backed Woodpecker at the Hyde Tract was seen today, Mon. 10:25
am, by me and a young Belgian visitor to Canada. After 15 minutes it
moved to another smaller tree to the south. After another 5 minutes or
so it took a long flight to the south at about 10:45. We did not pursue
it. On
This morning's hike on Fish Point saw vireos outnumbering warblers at Fox Pond
(WHITE-EYED, WARBLING, RED-EYED). A VIRGINIA RAIL and SORA continue to be

Big news for the day seems to be a KIRTLAND'S WARBLER at Sanctuary Picnic
area, seen out towards the beach. Also seen in the same area were

A Kirtland's Warbler was found this morning at Sanctuary picnic area in the
park early this morning and continues to be seen.
Parking is limited at Sanctuary and people are asked to park at Northwest
Beach and walk over to the picnic area. Thanks for your cooperation.

Sunday, while studying a Lesser Yellowlegs conveniently standing right
beside a Greater Yellowlegs for easy comparison, I saw another shorebird
walking in front of them - a dowitcher.

Light southerly winds and rain early overnight only produced a light
movement of birds. In fact, fewer birds were in evidence around the Tip

Foggy and mild conditions first thing this morning did not produce a
fallout of birds at the Park. In fact, fewer songbirds were evident this
morning, especially at the tip. Aside from the many Yellow Warblers
