For those winter listing, this may be of interest. Not that these beasts
stay in one place but at approx 2:30 p.m. today, Dave Don and I had 7 Turkey
Vultures sitting in spruce trees on 4th Concesssion West in Flamborough. We
would have missed them had Dave not seen one flap their wings. The bir
For all you weekend birders (or birders who can't make it out until
the weekend), the Varied Thrush is still at Cold Creek Conservation
Area. Visitors got good looks today (last one 15 mins ago, just in
advance of a Sharp-shinned visit).

Spruce Grouse: One along Spruce Bog Boardwalk on January 9.
Black-backed Woodpecker: One along Spruce Bog Boardwalk on January 9.
Another was 300 m north of the bridge on Opeongo Road on January 12.
Gray Jay: present at Visitor Centre feeder, Opeongo Road at the gate
To summarize the first two weeks of the new year is somewhat daunting as
everyone is out starting their year's list and two of the local Christmas
counts were done in January; Amherst Island on the 2nd and Napanee on the 3rd.
Amherst had 3 Common Loons, 7 Mute and 40 Tundra Swans and Napanee a
4 matches
