Hi again:
I forgot to mention, we observed a male RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER a ways off the
trail leading into the Owl Woods, approximately 300 meters from the feeders at
the entrance.

My wife and I spent the afternoon at Amherst Island. Overall it was slow in
the Owl Woods, with only singles of BARRED, BOREAL, and NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS.
No LONG-EARED OWLS were observed by us or any of the other
birders/photographers were spoke to. A 3rd year BALD EAGLE flew over the wood

Today there was a flock of 35+ Bohemian Waxwings near the corner of March Road
and Terry Fox Road in Kanata and yesterday I had a larger flock, 125+ near the
intersection of Kinburn Side Road and Carp Road.

Today John Schmelefske and I birded from Grimsby to Etobicoke along the shore
of Lake Ontario.
At Grimsby Harbour at the foot of Christie the Barnacle Goose swam in and sat
for a time on the ice until it flew east with a small group of Canadas at 12.30
pm.

January 17 - The results of the January Waterfowl Count and mid-winter
Bald Eagle Survey at Fort Erie at the source of the Niagara River between the
ice boom and the Peace Bridge there were:

Birded at the Millhaven ferry dock today, one Male Hooded Merganser and

The Varied Thrush described below was again present about 10:50 am when I
arrived, and showed up again about 30 minutes later, feeding on the same stump
as shown in the original photograph. It gets a bit wary/skitish when there is a
group of birders. Apparently the red-bellied woodpecker was see

Today, among several thousand gulls roosting on ice north of Gull Island at
Presqu'ile Provincial Park, I saw six Glaucous, three Iceland and two Lesser
Black-backed Gulls. Directions to Gull Island, which is west of Owen Point, are
