Mira Furgoch and I spent the weekend birding the county.
Sightings from the weekend include:
The Black-Bellied Whistling Duck was seen on Saturday evening and Sunday
morning.
Gull Pond on Saturday:
1 Semipalmated Plover
5 Least Sandpiper 1 Common
Hello Ontbirders
Yesterday evening I observed a Whimbrel flying over Shirley's Bay at 7:00p.m.
It flew over calling and heading south. There was a good number of shorebirds,
350+, with 260+ juv. Least Sandpiper, 22 juv. Semipalmated Sandpiper, and
smaller numbers of Lesser and Greater
this morning 9am there were 3 great egrets in reesor pond, also 3 red neck
grebes.

With all the Great Egret sightings, one more may not be that exciting except
that this bird is hanging around a storm water pond smack in the middle of a
construction site in the town of Bradford, not the most esthetic habitat! It
can be seen on the 8th Line where it meets Prof. Day Drive in
The Eared Grebe was seen yesterday morning, Monday, August 9th, swimming
among the moored sailboats in Cobourg's inner harbour but has not been found
so far today in spite of a thorough search by several birders.
I will post again should it return.

Several birders fom far and wide were happy to find the Scissor-tailed
Fycatcher at
Luther Marsh this morning between 10.30 11.30 am. It perched and flew
continually
from from the wires alongside the south side of [County Rd 15] Concession Road

Today at noon I checked for the reported Imm. Little Gull but did not see it.
There were approximately 10 imm. Bonaparte's Gulls present.
There was an Adult Bald Eagle sitting in the same spot as the Imm. from a few
days ago. It flew south and landed in a dead tree straight across from the

Shorebird migration continues throughout the Ottawa area with lots of juvenile
shorebirds. Saw my first juv. Baird's Sandpiper of the fall at Constance Bay
this evening. There was a small fallout of shorebirds due to the brief heavy
rain shower at 5:30pm. Around 150+ shorebirds
Birders,
We tried (family in tow) for the second time, this time successfully.
A bit distant view for me then it disappeared after I watched it just
sit there for 30min. A scope may be beneficial if the bird stays out
there while you are there - keep scanning bushes/treetops etc.
