Hello Ontbirders
A Snowy Owl (probably mature male) has been found in a field behind the new St.
Catharines hospital. Its been there for three days at least, despite harassment
by photographers. QEW southbound to St. Catharines, exit at 7th St. Louth, turn
right onto 7th until you reach 4th Ave
I returned to Riddell Drive before sunrise this morning try and get some images
of the ravens and bald eagles that I reported on yesterday along Riddell Drive
between March Valley and 6th Line Roads in
Kanata. Despite a long, cold 90 minute wait hiding under the branches of a
spruce tree
The Western Tanager was present again today at Durham Court Pk. At 1pm. Today's
light allowed for great views as it perched out in the open at the west end of
the park close to the fence by the tracks, allowing for great photo ops.
Directions as previously posted.

The 39th Algonquin Park CBC was held on Saturday, December 29.
Conditions for observing were excellent: minus 18 to minus 10 degrees C.,
light cloud and calm all day, and snow depths from 10 to 38 cm. Not needing
snowshoes to get around made it easier for participants to cover more areas.

A single Lapland Longspur was seen amongst a large flock (25) of Horned Larks.
The birds were moving around a lot along Robinson Rd. Near #135 and on the

A group of nine birders from Ontario and NY found a SLATY-BACKED GULL just
before noon today. We had a lengthy study of it perched and doing short
flights, seeing all of the field marks. It was too distant for flight shots
but we got some digiscoped images of it while perched. It appears to be
I found a single Fish Crow in a large flock of crows gathering to roost in
Fort Erie this evening. This was fairly close to where the Fish Crows were
last winter, but not in the exact same location. The crows were gathering
around Sugarbowl Park and the adjacent large (abandoned?) industrial
The Barred Owl was extremely accommodating today, perching at the (South) trail
side in a bare tree with the sun full on it. Off shore there were a kazillion
Canada geese, with a lone Greater White-fronted cruising back and forth along
the edges.

Hi all,
The mouth of Presqu'ile bay was teeming with waterfowl today - all of
the usual suspects plus a few Canvasback, White-winged Scoters, Tundra
Swans, the juvenile Greater White-fronted Goose that Fred Helleiner
reported, plus I saw an adult Bald Eagle flying along the edge of the
ice
The Eurasian Wigeon was there today and as previously reported, it was
relatively close to shore. However, it was on the EAST side of the point
today, as that is where the calmer waters were - in contrast to most
previous reports that had it just west of the point.

Yesterday at the McDougall township dump there were 5 Bald Eagles, 4 Glaucous
Gulls, 56 Herring Gulls and about 75 Ravens. The McDougall township dump is on

drive a few hundred metres further east to Haines Lake
My brother and I located five cooperative males near where 20 (mainly females)

Carry’s Sideroad (on west side), a few hundred metres from Mohr’s Road).
From Ottawa take Hwy. 417 west towards Arnprior and exit at the
