The temperature was a very cold -27 degrees Celsius in the early a.m. and only
went up to about -20 around mid-day. There were also strong winds all day

The first Rice Lake Plains Christmas Bird Count was held on January 1, 2014.
Nineteen field observers and 11 feeder watchers tallied 5545 birds of 41
species. One additional species (Purple Finch) was recorded during count week.

A first for my very urban Cedarvale backyard this morning: a brief visit from a
Northern Shrike. It took an American Goldfinch and defended its prey against a
Blue Jay. Surprising sight, only steps from one of Toronto's most congested
intersections.

28,2013. A total of 54 species and 10,888 individuals were recorded by 19 field

At about 3:30 pm today we got a really good look at a first winter female snow
bunting in our yard, then later we saw a group of three snow buntings on Bruner
Court (behind shoppers drug mart) in Kingsville Ontario.

The 37th Vankleek Hill CBC was held December 29th, 2013.
Cloud cover was heavy and winds were from the NE at 20 kph.
Few open areas were found on the Ottawa River.
The 16 field observers and 49 feeder watchers counted 42 species and 3778
individual birds.
