Ontario Birders: This afternoon at about 1:00pm, I saw a single Oldsquaw
duck in Pickering, Lake Ontario. The single bird was quite shy and would
not allow me to get closer than 100 yards, while I walked along the shore.
Fortunately I was able to get a few pictures which helped in identifying

This afternoon at 5:50 pm I found two American Woodcocks in a small muddy area
under some large willow branches. These were only about 2 meters from one of
the board walks ... this one located to the left and near the bottom of the
sloping road which is only access to the
A good influx of waterfowl today included 4 Greater White-fronted Geese at
Cathcart Park north of Sombra. They were sitting on the ice about an hour
ago.
American Wigeon (several) and a Gadwall present as well.
Will likely be present tomorrow.

The TUNDRA SWANS are arriving, with at least 650 seen this afternoon in flooded
fields just south of St. Clair NWA. There were also 5 SNOW GEESE (including two
blues), at least 1000 CANADA GEESE and a small number of ducks, including
REDHEAD, WOOD DUCK, MALLARD and AMERICAN BLACK DUCK.

I just saw a Western (Calurus subspecies) Red-tailed Hawk where Hwy 427 crosses
Hwy 401. It was perched on a light post between the lanes of the 401 just a
hair west of this intersection. It had an all-brown front side with a tad of
white mottling. This might be a tough bird to
