Fish Crows were all present today. The Cormorant seems to prefer the second
half of the day and was at the edge of a large mass of Double-crested

Today, April 6, Brian Morin, Ben Di Labio and I observed a total of 11 Snowy
Owls on Lac Deschenes/Ottawa River. These birds were on the still frozen lake
and observed from Shirley’s Bay and Andrew Haydon Park. A scope was helpful in
locating them far out on the ice.

This morning I finally went to The Islands and I birded the eastern end only,
from the eastern gap to Snake Island and following are some of the migrants
that have arrived, some in numbers and some as single representatives.

I've been surveying Snowy Owls across Amherst Island this winter and
spring, and numbers reached a peak today of an incredible 44 birds (up from
22 on 31 March). The majority of the birds are on the ice off the south
shore where there are good numbers of ducks (esp Long-tailed Duck). Also
Today 11:30am – 12:30pm at Reesor Pond: 1 Greater White-fronted Goose, 2
Greater Snow Geese, 1 Hooded Merganser. Also Ring-necked Ducks, American
Wigeon, Gadwall, Redhead, Bufflehead, Common Merganser, Canada Geese, Mallard,
Black Ducks. Pond is 99 percent ice free.
12:50pm at Fairtree Pond
At about 8:30 this morning (Apr 6) Ruth Lambert and I found 5 Sandhill
Cranes in the field that is the SW corner of Milton Road and Smith Road
east of Ottawa. There were large gatherings of Canada Geese and a few Wild
Turkey in the surrounding fields.

Watched a beautiful Golden Eagle fly down the river at the northern tip of
Lake Couchinching, Washago Sunday afternoon. Managed a couple pictures if
interested.

They are here in big numbers
Yesterday I surveyed from Vankleek Hill to Lancaster eastward into Quebec in
the Valleyfield/Beauharnois area.
Highlights 278,000 Greater Snow Geese of which 158,000 were within Ontario.Only
a few Snow Geese were west/nw of Lancaster. Areas Around Green valley, North
Yesterday, at 1:15pm there were 5 Fish Crows on the beach at Lakeside Park,
Port Dalhousie. Two birds flew off east carrying nesting material so nests must
be near by. Later I heard at least 3 separate birds calling from the east side
of the harbour and one bird was in the car park looking for h
