Warbler numbers are swelling. Many types. Bobolinks have returned to field.
One male has at least 2 juveniles with him in west field. Hummingbird
numbers are also climbing. Both tree and barn swallows also returned. First
year, I've seen so many barn swallows in a long time.
The wet season,
The first of the sandhill cranes has returned. It was flying westward from
McPhail Rd and calling loudly.
McPhail is north of Bruce Mines, half way between Sudbury and Sault Ste.

This
Sandhill cranes have arrived north of Bruce Mines. They were calling loudly
this morning.
Take highway 17 from Sudbury, turn north at flashing yellow light at Bruce
Mines, cross railroad tracks and turn right on McPhail. Cranes in field on
south side of road at corner of Chapman.
Good
Warbler numbers are starting to climb. They have not reached the high levels
we saw the last 2 years, yet. Mixed with them are significant numbers of
finch. Also many flickers along roadways in area.
The sandhill cranes are massing and are on the move. The 2 pair that nested
in the south
4 Fledgling bobolinks were seen with adults at 7am July 14 at corner of
Chapman and McPhail, just west of barn, north side of road. Another nest is
east of house but fledglings not seen yet.
There seems to be an abundance of fledglings this season, not sure if last
year's late hay harvest (due
Snowy owl perched on the lighthouse deck for about 3 hours around supper
time May 13 .
The Bruce Mines lighthouse is located just off hwy 17 on Bruce Bay Rd, 45
minutes east of Sault. Ste Marie. The location is well signed. Permission
from landowner required.
Bobolinks displaying mating behaviours in farm fields and blue heron has
moved to marshy areas on water front. Blue birds, many swallows. Turkey
vultures were feeding at corner. Also many flickers in ditches.
Farm fields with many bobolink are north on 638 from highway 17 at Bruce
Mines, turn
May 10 saw the return of the northern orioles (3males and 1 female). Today
we saw our first ruby throated hummingbirds (1 male and 1 female), an indigo
bunting, rose breasted grosbeaks (1male and 1female) and 2 pileated
woodpeckers . The white crown and white throated sparrows have been
