I watched approximately 50-60 Sandhill Cranes foraging in the harvested corn
fields south of Smith Road between Milton and 10th Line Roads for about 90
minutes around noon today, November 1, 2017. A larger number of Canada Geese
were also there.
Several small (family?) groups of 4-5 birds

Monahan Drain in Kanata.This one is another in flight image, taken seconds
after the first one, and includes two Canada Geese in it for comparison as
well. Hopefully this angle may be more useful for identification
While out at the Monahan Drain flood control ponds in Kanata (west Ottawa)
this afternoon there were several hundred Canada Geese resting in the water.
They began taking off in small groups of 10-20. Monahan Drain is located near
the corner of Eagleson Road and Hope Side Road
