Sadly one of the two adult Red-necked Grebes (the female, based on prior
observations) has a fisherman’s hook stuck in her neck. There are two young
chicks. Oakville Humane Society was on the scene before I got there but were
evidently unable to catch the grebe.

Sue and I just got back from what we thought would be a quick trip to check on
the grebes before going to Sobeys. The east nest has four chicks, one of which
hatched this afternoon. The eggshell was still in the nest. Unfortunately the
newly hatched chick went into the water before his/her feath
As of Sunday May 28 there is one nest with six eggs and one hatchling. The
young bird likely hatched last Wednesday. As in previous years there are
additional pairs trying to build nests attached to the back of boats in the
marina. This is the tenth year for Red-necked Grebes nesting in Bronte.
