Morning Rick, I found the same here for the 4-H. The kids can only show in Showmanship and Breed Classes with Blackbellys or any other breed of sheep. I have seen breeds other then market breeds go into the Breed Classes and the judges have no idea what the breed the kids are showing were.

Would county or state fairs have objections to exhibits that were not competeing? I noticed at my county's fair last year that there were no meat goats-- just dairy breeds. All the sheep were woolies. One lady had a Scottish Highland cow and her calf there-- but I believe it was entered as a beef

I figure do what the alpaca people did In other words-- create a demand!!! But not on the Alpaca scale--Quite frankly, I like Alpaca. llamas, etc-- but I am NOT going to pay the equivalent of what, for me, is two years of income for one animal! I will visit my extension office tomorrow and see

How about having a blackbelly info booth rather than showing? You would want to have halter-trained sheep that people could see up close and maybe touch. Maybe even some older lambs. Be sure to stress the parasite resistance traits and how great the grass-fed meat is. Both are hot topics nowadays.

Hi Peg, I did try that, presented nearly word for word what you said. The booth has to be paid for in advance with fair board approvel.but for the last 3 years there has been no exta places to set up for livestock and the barns are full of show animals. I could bring in my sheep to
