I am experimenting with bluetooth and I have to change permissions to
/var/lock.
I looked into (B)LFS books, to the FHS but could not find any directions
about the "proper" way to give permissions to /var/lock directory.
I think this may be solved in a distribution policy level.
I think that mak

Is this step necessary before installing KDE-3.5.5?
Of course I am going to do it in the console mode, with X server down.
Do you have any recommendations?

Dan Nicholson answered the /etc/issue question in his post at 19.10.2006

I have been building my BLFS for some time.
At first I decided that I do not need Kerberos, LDAP and SASL, because
my system should be a desktop not a server.
I installed of course PAM, Shadow and Cracklib (Cracklib more for fun
than for really need). I thought that Kerberos, LDAP and SASL are rath

Definitely better with -B4,11. No glitches at all.

The sound quality from fluidsynth is not very good, much worse than with
timidity with eawpats.
(May be I had wrong soundfonts) So I decided to uninstall fluidsynth.
I compiled timidity again with

Thank you Allesandro for your suggestions.
I installed Timidity at first. It worked.
I am able to play midi files both in timidity and in audacious, through
the timidity plugin.
Recompiling the plugins (ver 1.2.5) was not necessary.
However it turned out that I can specify only one mid file at o
I double-checked the access to CD-ROM. Added username to the cdrom
group, but it didn't work.
Audacious kept complaining that it has not access to the cdrom.
Reboot helped. Now I can play audio cds.
Thank you.

I have fresh install of KDE-3.5.2 and X11R6.9
I got some errors during start of KDE.
These errors does not seem to be fatal, however I would like to know
what they mean and how to get rid of them.

Oh, thank you Alexan
Can someone point my a reading, explaining how the locale and encodings
are supposed to work in KDE.
I thought I knew, but now I am convinced that I was wrong. Now all my
"knowledge" about locale, fonts and encodings has collapsed.

I have been waiting for the book for two days. I though that there must
be some technical problems with the web site. But it lasts too long... :-(

I added to BLFS teTeX installation macros from xmltex and passivetex.
I compiled and installed xmlto in my system. It seems to be working with

But to produce pdf files xmlto needs pdfxmltex.
I don't have it in my teTeX.
