I suspect this is more related to the version of the kernel you used(kernel
headers especially).
Using 2.6.24-rc1 gave me similar errors, but 2.6.23 didn't. Might've done
something else wrong in the process though.

After a bit of messing around, I finally got kde to work(kdm wouldn't detect
it as a startable WM) but now I can't let KDE handle my DVD/CD mounts. The

Well, I didn't read the book so I kind of assumed the correct libstdc++
version was in any 3.x gcc package. And 3.4.6 is the latest out of that
