Are you referring to the framebuffer driver (rivafb) or to the X driver
(nv)? The former is unnecessary for X, and the latter doesn't actually
use a kernel m

In my installation they get permissions 660 and owner root:video which makes

But, this is not needed for X to run. Only for the screensaver in KDE (which

Appears the journey is not quite over. :( When I run an OpenGL app, I
get the error about permissions on /dev/nvidiactl. Per the NVIDIA

Appears the journey is not quite over. :( When I run an OpenGL app, I
get the error about permissions on /dev/nvidiactl. Per the NVIDIA
docs:
It is likely that a security module for the PAM system may be changing
the permissions on the NVIDIA device files.

Geesh... I *finally* found the problem. I my X log, there was a line
mentioning "LoadKernelModule No such file or directory". When I
started Googling for that, I finally wound up looking at some source
code for XFree86. It was trying to pull the modprobe path from the
file /proc/sys/kernel/modpr

Just a note -- in that xorg.conf you try to load both GLX and COMPOSI

Shouldn't you set some modes for the size of your screen in the display subsection?
Attached is an xorg.conf from when I used to use the Nvidia module

Has anyone been able to get the 7174 drivers from Nvidia installed on
a BLFS system? I can install the drivers just fine, but when I try to
startx, X complains that it can't load the kernel module for the card.
I've read through all the documentation on the drivers and I posted
on the NvidiaNews.
