If it's an image file, then hitting enter on it...? If you need to scan a physical print out, then most scanners come with default software of their own..? Alternatively, now in windows7, I just typed scan in the search box of the start menu, and there's something called windows fax and scan,

If you just want to capture a screenshot of the screen, I think you can still do something like alt + printScreen key - generally, on a standard keyboard the print screen key like the left hand one of the 3 keys to the right of the F12 key - and that will capture a screen shot to the clipboard,
