is to hit the left shift key 5 times in quick succession since this makes
the sticky keys dialogue pop up with a very noticeable sound.
Just hit escape to then close it.

do you get windows sounds, and/or Narrator to come up when you activate it?
If you do, this may be a Jaws issue, and not necessarily a system volume
problem like that other person suggested.
