In some cases, and I haven't been able to figure out which instances cause
this to happen, while pressing enter on a podcast link will usually result
in the podcast playing right away, when I go to right click on it, or press
the applications key, there's no sign that I entered on the link at al

What you need to do is Right Click on the link you want to download. You
will then get a list of options, one of which is 'Save Target As'. Take that
option and follow the prompts to save the download.
