Lee you are supposed to turn the phone part or the cord that you are
trying to attach; not turn yourself till you waste good coffee.
Maybe something is in the jack and is obstructing the fit.

I've seen some that had more than one cout out but never one that didn't
have any cut out.

Thanks Tom, Well I got it but it is now the opinion of a couple of
sighted folks, no voting required that this do hinghis swivel thing
is about wore out. the hole where the little phone cord clip goes seems
to have some wiggle room , once it is reconnectd. so for now , I'll
give it a bal

There is, might you have guessed, no standard for how they orient the position
of those connectors, although the ones I can feel from here
have the tab pointing at the "talk" side of the handset.
The hole is a longish triangle, and if you feel in the shorter side of
