Dell laptop, my Macintosh, and a cable into which I plug my electric

The kvn shouldn't have a problem with that setup. however, if you
think it is, unplug it and see if hum goes away. That will tell for
sure if the laptop is doing it or the kvn.

It is both computers causing the noise and it could be they are
creating some sort of loop. I dont' know the technical term, but
removing either does eliminate the noise. Like I said, just tweaking
the mixer will generally remove or put the sound way in the

Since the usb also supplies power to accessories, it could just be reading that
because of a lack of other signal.

Max's idea of using ballanced inputs may work if your mixer has them, but I
doubt that it does, that's usually limited to commercial audio gear.
What you probably need to do is "break" the ground to one or other of the
computers, probably the laptop. Now, of course, just breaking

the task. I do pretty well with soldering cables together. NEver could
quite get the hang of soldering wire to those small pins you find on
boards and such.

I'm told radio shlock makes cables of the type you may want, They might be
called isolator cables or ground loop prventers or the like.
