In AC, normally it is the black that is hot, when your talking about 120 v, with 240 v, it is normally the black and red, if it is three wire, or both black and white are hot if it is just 2 wire 240 v. When the white is made hot, it is suppose to be marked with a piece of black electrical tape. u
