Yep! That was it. I opened the file in BW, repasted everything and now
it's all displaying as it should be.

minor problems with images and rewrite rules (which I fixed by always
ignoring links that point to real files) I got it working, flawlessly.

This seems fairly straight forward.
At some point your german translation files (if thats what you mean by
the umlaute in the commands) were saved in ISO-8859-1 format.
Change their encoding to UTF-8 and everything should work fine.
