You could check out gui as well as back ... I seem to recall matt redoing
window level code, though that was more than a month ago.

This seems more a window manager (or backend) issue than a gworkspace one.
GWorkspace is only an application running together with other applications.
It doesn't gives its application focus to anything...
But we should investigate this problem
