Hello
You are right, that some terminal do net send the text before
pressing the return key, but then they send the text inclusive
`return' key, and GRUB then interpretes the `return' key also,
which leads to unwished reactions.
I have spoken with Klaus, he will also have a look at the
stuff.
Hmm. This is even worse than I expected. I trashed my XP MBA so badly I
had to reload. I am trying fat to see if that improves things. I'll keep
you posted on my experiment.

Hello,
I am using GRUB version 0.90 (shipped with RedHat GNU/Linux 7.2). I am
attempting to set up a system that presents the GRUB menu, kernel output,
login prompt, etc. to the serial port instead of the monitor (the system
will eventually have no keyboard or monitor). During the setup process,
I have now reloaded XP and RH7.2 using fat32 on the XP side and etx3(?)
on RH.
Works like a charm.

The problem is that grub didn't change the partition type.
It destroyed the whole partition table, not just one partition.
No partitons at all, not even a partition table signature!
It had only 512 bytes of something like D0 FF.
Fortunately I was able to recover everything.
Maybe hiding the grub
Aha,
I commented the splashimage line out of the grub.conf file, and now it
seems to work fine.
That's quite strange. Does the same problem occur with the genuine GRUB?
Not sure, as I didn't try this.
