Hi,
This is not a bug as such, but I need help with GRUB.
I've read the documentation through and through and I can't seem to make any
sense of my issue: I was hoping you might provide help or redirect me to
someone who can.
Here is my problem: GRUB returns an error 17 when I boot my PC. I had

Hello!
I believe so.
How this is why I suggested we wait for the list to chime in
with its advice.

Hi!
Thank you very much for answering so quickly.
Yes, you've understood correctly, I have Kubuntu and vista on the same HD.
vista was installed first, maybe that wasn't a good idea?

Hi all,
I have one 80 GB HDD which has Windows XPSP2 (NTFS based)
Ubuntu 6.06 upgraded to Ubuntu 6.10 (ext2). It had GNU GRUB 0.97 running
underneath it all. Everything was running fine suddenly yesterday it
gave me error 17. Looking in Grub Legacy came to know tht error 17 means
to restart for the first time it hangs on stage
1.5 with an error 17. No amount of reinstalling grub helps it. In desperation I unplugged my sata drive and lo and behold it booted up fine. Is there any reason it might do this? Is there some way to make it work with the sata drive attached?
If I haven't

I've wercked my system by making my boot partition Reiser4. Now, GRUB
obviously refuses to boot since it can't load stage 1.5 (error 17).
No big problem, I thought - I'll just boot from my (Gentoo) LiveCD and restore
the boot partition to something readable (I have a backup of it (.tar.bz2

Perhaps the GRUB boot floppy might help. I am not sure if it support
