Eddie,.Im on the EMROG net tonight and just heard about an ARES meeting at the
Hamfest at 7am saturday. That spurred the thought that we need to publish a
schedule of meetings for the Hamfest if its not already on the website.I'm
poking around on it and dont see any, but I'm probably missing
A lot of POTA hams use end fed half wave antennas because the parks that
they operate from have built in masts,i.e. trees, and they just toss a
line over a branch that is 30+ feet above the ground & use it to pull
the end of the antenna up to the tree. I use a 40 foot Spiderbeam mast,
and I
As mentioned, when I added SWR DaiwaCN-901 pro, my maximum output power was
only 80 w on RTTY. After some research, and as JP said, it is a common issue
with Icom 7300.
I found the video:
I would suggest investing in a good SWR meter because not only is it
good to know how much power your transceiver is putting out, but its
also good to know when it isn't putting out what it should. This would
be helpful if you ever plan to keep the meter inline at all times, but
the meter can
Ill be on an airplane again but will call in from the car as soon as I land

Marc,I will be presenting a session surrounding this topic at the HAMFest in
March. Feel free to come listen to my 50 years of HOA Stealth antenna
experiences. Some of the principles are the same for RV antennas.
You can expand from there with all the many mentors in this email reflector.73.
vna nano great low cost means to tune an antenna you have built.
Wire antennas are low cost and easy to build. Use the VNA Nano to tune it
End-Fed Half-Wave Antenna Kit This is a great all included kit and the write
up gives examples of out to set it up. 10, 15, 20, 40 band, add more
The real challenge in the hobby is learning, and doing what you can with
what you have. My home station consists of a inverted V at 30ft and my
antenna tuner makes it work on all bands except 160 unfortunately.. as far
as a VHF antenna goes, why do you say it doesn't transmit? If it's a good
I am a total noob. (new guy for the older folks).
I ordered an icom 7300 and want to do all the things i can with it but
mostly ARES, and POTA. so of course I am thinking about antennas, I
really like building antennas, however the one I built for 146MHz receives
crystal clear but does not
Are there any photos of the Tower trailer?

Phillipe,
If you want real accuracy on power, swr and other parameters, I would suggest
the Telepost LP-100a or LP-500a. I believe these instruments are the standard
setters for ham radio power readings. I have an LP-100a and it has performed
flawlessly for several years.
I want to say thanks to Kori, WX5KR and Anthony, W5LIC for a great winter Field
Day event in Brazos Bend State park. It was will attended with at least 50
people braving the weather to come down to the park. Kori or Anthony should
send out the numbers shortly on attendance and contacts. Also
Philippe,
Just a suggestion, but I bought a Surecomm SW-102HF digital from Amazon for $69
that does wattage in a compact package. I have the UHF/VHF model as well
and the output lined up with what I was seeing on my old MFJ and wattmeter on
my rig, which is a Yaesu FT-840 I bought in 1999. It
