I've checked that all Dirs are writable.

Yes, this is true. I have seen several open source dicom viewers and
converters, but none of them is perfect on dicom specification support.
It depends the source of the dicom image - different medical equipment
produces dicom images with different structure that is not always

Agata (http://www.agata.org.br/), which ist Open-Source. Are there
problems to integrate that?
