The cas-client 3.3 has not been released yet.
I don't see any published snapshot versions in repositories : I think the best
solution right now is to build from source :
https://github.com/Jasig/java-cas-client.

Well, shoot. I'll have to look into that. I was hoping it would be as easy
as configuring the authentication handler to use a search, rather than a
bind.

will not be able to detect the error code. You'd likely need to augment
the authN handler and do a direct lookup on the attribute that specifies
the password behavior, and throw the exception yourself.
