This Chickadee must be REALLY concerned about
protecting its' territory!

Or is it really interested protecting its "image"!
Very nice tale (not tail) ;-)

This afternoon, we saw a little brown bat flying over the water just
offshore (south of Aurora). It was flying determinedly, with an apparent
agenda, but didn't seem to be hunting. We certainly wondered about it's
health,
the time of day, etc. and so were interested to read Steve's descri
For the last 2 days, in the afternoon, I have been working in the woods on
Bald Hill, in Caroline. There is a pond there. Yesterday, a warmish, sunny
day, I saw a small BAT fluttering over the pond. It dipped down twice to
get a drink of water. I noted this, but unfortunately did not pursue it.
A trip through Shindagan Hollow this morning turned up 2 LOUISIANA
WATERTHRUSHES singing on Leonard Road (in basin) and 3 more along the
road (and above the creek) on the way down into the hollow. A walk up
what I assume to be Gulf Creek failed to produce any waterthrushes

Out with my camera this morning, I heard (but did not see) Rusty Blackbirds
singing at Goetchius Preserve on Flatiron Road, Caroline. Also, has Wood Thrush
been reported yet in the basin? I heard a brief snatch of distant Wood
Thrush-ish song from the woods at the southern end of Hammond Hill Ro
I started the morning by walking the Baldwin Preserve on Irish Settlement
Rd. Going east from the parking lot, on the main trail, I noted that about
90% of the bird singing was coming from the scraggy property just to the
north. The FLLT "managed" property was almost silent. I finally heard a

I saw an active PALM WARBLER at the Swan Pen at Stewart Park this morning,
foraging on the island in the pond. Otherwise birding was slow in the area,
although a few more Blue-gray Gnatcatchers seem to be back. Dryden Lake and
George Road were unexciting earlier in the morning, and a loop of sout
I just observed 'our' OSPREY on the Center St/Number One Rd. nest at the NYSEG
sub-station about 1/2 mile east of the Union Springs Post Office on Rte. 90.
The nest is now so deep that it is almost impossible to detect a bird on it. I
watched (at 10:20) until a bird stood up so I could see it (
In a effort to verify the Eared Grebe at Van Dyne Spoor this morning I
unfortunately found a Horned Grebe in breeding plumage in the same location.
I'm sorry for any trouble the other post caused anyone.
So unless someone finds an Eared Grebe here I will delete my Eared Grebe from
my ebird. I
Spotted a single Broad-winged Hawk flying low over Odessa yesterday afternoon.
