The EARED GREBE is visible now off the boathouse in Aurora. Lots of Horned
Grebes as well as a large Aythya flock off the point to the south with a
probable male scaup x Redhead hybrid.

Hi, I have friends visiting today. Where should I take them to hopefully
find a Snowy to see? Are they still present at Hancock? The Freeville Owl
location confuses me...there are Cornell barns on 366, also in Dryden. I
dont know of any in Freeville. Can anyone give a street crossing that would

Go on NY Rt. 366 to the center of Freeville where NY Rt. 366 ends at the
intersection with NY Rt. 38.
Stop. Go straight across on the continuation of the road that was Rt. 366
towards McLean.
in no more than a mile, the next crossroad past that Rt. 38 intersection is

The Snowy Owl on Indian Field road is still present as of right now. It is
out in the corn field on the west side of the road just south of the second
group of barns north of 90. Groups of Horned Larks with Snow Buntings and
longspurs along the road to the north as well.

Hi all,
A few minutes ago, while counting a kettle of Turkey Vultures, I spotted a
group of at least 20 SNOW BUNTINGS on the dirt road along the north edge of
the pheasant pens on Game Farm Road. They flew up briefly, but landed again
on that dirt road.

Hi all,
I made a trip to Freeville to try find the or a Snowy Owl. There were a few
more people when I was there all looking for Snowy Owl. We did not find it. I
suspect it relaxes during the day time behind some tuft of grass and becomes
active in the evening.
If anyone sees it please post.
Hi, thank you for all the great bird location tips today, you all are an
awesome resource. There are two Snowys on Indian Field as of 4:52 today. We
saw them together. Both sitting on different telephone poles. One is larger
and less barred. No SEOW activity at Long Point as of 3:30-4:00. Maryfaith
Hi all,
In the last week or so, I've been having good luck finding or relocating
uncommon winter species from the Christmas Bird Count (or before), not all of
which have been posted here. A GRAY CATBIRD is wintering on Arrowwood Trail --

A recent report indicated few birds along the West side of Cayuga Lake. Hoping
then for an easy day of wave watching, little taxing of my ID powers, etc.,
this is where I went. Boy was I disappointed--birds up the wazoo.

Interesting. There were 2 catbirds there around Thanksgiving, but I've only had

Forgot to mention that on the way back from Freeville, we swung down to come

spotted and photographed a drift of at least 46 SNOW BUNTINGs almost at the

The SNOWY OWL which I found this afternoon in Union Springs was sitting on lake ice eating a catfish. The bird was facing away from me, so I can't compare directly with the lake-ice bird at Stewart Park yesterday which faced me, but it also appeared pretty dark - heavily barred, including several b
