Although I don't know of the TUFTED DUCK being seen Monday, I just got a Rare
Bird Alert from Tim Lenz that it is among active REDHEADS near the piling
cluster.
I apologize for the confusing last sentence of my earlier reply about Tufted
Duck ID. It should read:
There is just the one bird, and
Anyone interested in searched for the Tufted Duck Wednesday morning? I plan on
being at Hog Hole at 845 am or so. I could use the help in searching through
all the ducks there. I appreciate all the ID help on this listserve...Jay's

In my haste to re-send Tim's message I screwed it up a bit. This morning the
TUFTED DUCK has been among mainly LESSER SCAUP (not Redheads) near the piling
cluster in the middle of the south end of Cayuga Lake. I refound it resting
among about 100 Lesser Scaup about 10am south of the pilings, but
Hi all, Tim Lenz and I just had what he identified as a first cycle
THAYER'S GULL at the Cornell compost piles, seen from Stevenson road. He'll
have photos on his eBird report.

Tim Lenz just (1257pm) reported a 1st cycle THAYER'S GULL at the compost piles,
which doubtless means the Cornell facility off Stevenson Road near the game
farm.

I just came from the compost piles w/probable Thayer’s Gull. Jay and I viewed
it from Stevenson Road (work going on at the piles). The bird was last seen on
the hillside east of the piles - no need to think about driving in.
Tim/Brad - why Thayer’s and not Iceland?

Ken and I were going to send out an announcement to the listserv about our
planned Cayuga Bird Club field trip for Sunday, but then checked the
weather.
Right now, the weather is predicted to be quite a lot warmer on Saturday
than on Sunday (38 degrees Saturday vs 25 on Sunday), and Saturday is

I just scoped from my yard what I believe is a Peregrine Falcon perched on the
more sheltered ledge 2/3 up Bradfield Hall's SW corner. My ID is based on size,
shape, general color, and location, but not pattern. Does anyone else see this
bird? If I'm correct I get a new yard bird for the year, i

Hi, At 5PM this evening there was a large ( female ) Snowy Owl about 1
mi. North of MacKenzie-Childs on Rt.90. It was right along side the
road at the top of a tall tree. It was on the north side of "Chris's
Hill" ( south of Kings Crns. Rd.).

Hi everyone,
In addition to the 1st cycle Thayer's, there was an adult Iceland Gull at the
compost piles this afternoon. Both took off for the lake at 3:45.
In the field, the two stood next to each for size and structure comparison. The
more Herring Gull-like robustness is nicely seen in photos p
