I scanned the sky from Comfort Rd in Danby from 10:35-11:15 yesterday and only
saw 19 Broad-wingeds – winds were stronger south (~10 mph) than forecasted.

I talked to Reuben again today. He said that yesterday’s Broad-winged Hawk
migration path shifted eastward during the day. Reuben also heard from another
Amish farmer/birder, Adam Troyer in Candor NY, who counted these raptors
migrating past his place yesterday:

Reuben Stoltzfus was cutting hay on his farm in Ovid today, where he has a
great view to the west toward Seneca Lake. Between 11am and 11:30am he saw 500
Broad-winged Hawks migrating past on a series of at least 4 thermals. Later on
he saw more migrating Broad-winged Hawks totalling an
Yesterday (28 April) Reuben Stoltzfus was traveling north on NYS-414 between
Ovid and Romulus when he saw several kettles of small Buteos who circled
tightly and flapped rapidly. They totaled about 200 birds. This was before the
rainstorm.
