What is presumably the same Clay-colored Sparrow that has been present in
the last few years was singing from the apple trees in his usual spot
(between Goldwin Smith and Stimson Halls) on the Cornell Arts Quad this
morning around 9:15am.
I saw it briefly in flight as it headed toward East
I saw it last Thursday, and I believe several students heard it singing
while lined up for the commencement procession on Sunday morning.

Yes, it was there this morning. The nest it was attending (discovered
yesterday by Teresa Pegan and Eric Gulson) fledged in the last day and the
birds are now very active and flying all around the area following and
feeding the fledglings. The Clay-colored also seems to be trying to chase

I saw and heard one Clay-colored Sparrow this morning in the grassland between
the Montezuma Audubon Center at the Black Walnut Grove on the north side of the
building. We also had really nice looks at the Bald Eagles, Osprey, and

The Clay-colored Sparrow is flying around again today between Stimson and
Goldwin-Smith Halls near East Avenue. It is a noisy spot, but the buzzy
song is distinctive enough to stand out.

Brian Magnier and myself went out and watched/photographed the Clay-colored
sparrow on Cornell's campus this afternoon. He's still sticking around and
singing/calling almost constantly. The most interesting thing we observed
was copulation with a chipping sparrow at around 6:00 PM.

Nate Senner just reported a Clay-colored Sparrow off of Freese Road,
northeast Ithaca. It was along the west side of the more southern of the
corn fields on Freese Road - the corn field by the pond at Liddell Labs. The
bird was by itself, and moving south.

I just saw a basic-plumage CLAY-COLORED SPARROW in the CRC field near Monkey
Run north, in the goldenrod north of the CRC buildings and south of Hanshaw
Road (much closer to the buildings). It was with a small flock of Song
Sparrows, but they all dispersed quickly into the underbrush and I have
