At about 430 pm, a young N Shrike was perched in the clump of trees, N side of
road, that is about 60 m east of 220 Hile School Rd. This is the
address/mailbox at the east end of the unfinished road running through the
wetland. The clump of trees sits just west ( toward Rt 38) of a two- track

that to give an all-around view.
Never got a better look at one.

saw it at noon in an unsuccessful pursuit of a single Snow Bunting and both

Around 5:05, I noticed a Northern Shrike sitting in the bushes. Maybe it is the

This afternoon Joann and I had our first Northern Shrike of the season in a
bush east of the potato bldg on route 31 in the mz mucklands. 6 Greater
Yellowlegs at Armitage Road and a Peregrine carrying prey (probably a gw teal)

About 8:30 Sunday morning had a Northern Shrike along Van Dyne Spoor Rd in
Savannah. It was on the north side of the road, about halfway along the open
marsh area, chasing after Tree Sparrows in the hedge row.

This morning my 7-year-old daughter said excitedly, "There's an unusual looking
bird at the feeder." Last time she said that, it turned out to be an Evening
Grosbeak (many months ago), so I ran over, to find a grayish bird with black on
its wings, sitting on a branch a few feet from our platfor
Seen at 3:30 this afternoon at the end of Cayuga Vista Drive where there
will be a new development - I walked the lane (cannot drive in there). The

The shrike doesn't seem to like cars pulling underneath where it is perched.
It has now flown across East Shore drive along the powerline area. it didn't go
too far in there, so it may return to Cayuga Vista Drive.

A little over an hour ago I had a Northern Shrike along Freese Road. The
bird was moving east, stopping in the crown of each of the two lonely trees
in the field across from Dyce Lab before continuing on.

I did a trip around the lake and highlights were large raft of Athya ducks,
Tundra swans (far out in the middle of the lake), flotilla of Snow Geese in the
same locations I have been seeing in the past (don't they ever move?) mostly
around Union Springs and the latter near Aurora.

(between Ellis Hollow and 79), the bird was in the trees behind the

This afternoon (10 January 2012) I found a first winter NORTHERN SHRIKE along Creamery Road, south of Slaterville in Caroline. The bird was relatively brown, with an indistinct mask, a mostly pale bill, and lots of scaliness/barring below. It was on the west side of the road in the first field sout
Thanks to Eric's message, our FOURTH visit to find the shrike was a
success: my daughter spotted it in the trees along Nelson and then it
flew to the hay bales, giving us an excellent look--breast barring
and all. It's a good thing, too, because my family was ready to
mutiny if we didn't see it
I had a stretch of not seeing the shrike from Dec 24 until this week, but it
has been visible daily along both E Miller and Nelson Rds, near their
intersection, flying from hay bale to hay bale.

Bob McGuire and I scouted around the lake for his up-coming trip on
Saturday. Of note - A Northern Shrike on Portland Point Road. We saw one
a little north of a yellow house. Bob thought he might have heard a second
shrike, but we couldn't locate it.

just east of the intersection with Turkey Hill Rd. at 12:33 this afternoon
(Thursday). I believe somebody reported a possible shrike at that location last
week. It was quite visible and active!
