I'm Building my Servers and will be loading an IOS and VMWARE. I'm hoping to get recommendations from the group on type of IOS (I've been looking at (ubuntu-11.04-desktop-i386.iso) to load for IOS and what VMWARE product (VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.i386.tar.gz) is easiest to use and install. I

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] What kind of server hardware are you all using for the UC Apps

2011-07-15 Thread Eliot Ngwa
I've got my network devices for my home lab. Now, I'm just curious as to what kind of servers you all are using to run the CUCM, CUPS, UCCX, AND Connection apps on VMWare. I was thinking of getting a Dell PE 1850 with 12GB ram but not sure if that will be enough. Is there major difference in perfor

I am running my VMware ESXi on a regular PC based system with i7 CPU, 16 GB of RAM and 4 NIC's, I split up the VM on several HDD and it runs very well, no need to spend all the money on a full server. Heck before this setup I had them running on a KPC from Shuttle with 4 gb ram shared and a single

Use VMWare ESXi, it is free and works very well for this. I am using it on my system and it is a quad core desktop based system. Hardest part is the NIC's need to be specific brand, but I just added ones in that are supported. On Fri, Jul 15, 2011 at 9:28 AM, wrote: > I’m Building my Servers a

Hi Tony, I am currently running a single server with 2 quad core CPUs (and therefore 64bit - a must for ESX) and 8gb of ram. I'm running ESX and I have 1 TB of drive space. I can run CUCM-PUB w/2-CPUs and 2GB of ram assigned. My CUCM-SUB is set up the same way. CUPS, and CUX set up the same way. I

I run ESXi on a Dell PC that I put a $100 used quad core CPU, 8gig of memory for next to nothing and a pair of 1TB HDDs. I can run all the servers required for the lab without issue. I wouldn't recommend spending more than a couple hundred on it. Save that money for the Cisco gear. On Fri, Jul 15

One little side note, u can't run more than 1 physical CPU on the free license of ESXi. It can have up to 8 cores if I remember right, but 1 socket I am upgrading to a second box because I plan on messing with things like vmotion in the future. The new one is more than enough on it's own. Qua

VMWare ESXi is a bare bones Hyperviser, think very thin OS install and it is the host, your servers are Guest systems. They run as if they are on the hardware but share resources. This is much faster and effecient than something like VMWare workstation or VMware server but you do not have a useab
