Are you using a USB to serial converter? I've had tons of issues doing this on cheap converters. The diablo cable branded ones seems to work well.

So in short i have six identical drives. Same manufacture, model, and firmware. Three of them work fine, the other three also work fine but they always show up as the wrong target. For example i have a Sun D1000 storage array with 12 slots (targets 0-11). It doesn't matter what slot you put
