My 160g drive full of all my music and photographs is making that
familiar WD I'm gonna die soon tick. I've got a lot of stuff backed
up on it, but not all. I was thinking about buying one of the buffalo
1tb nas units that does mirroring. Later, I got to thinking that two

I built a RAID file server that runs Ubuntu, it was easy. Probably
even easier in Windows, but for the license fee.
If you buy one of the storage appliances, the one everyone that I have
talked with seems to like is the ReadyNAS NV+. You'll pay about $900
for one with no disks (it has 4 bays),

I had a nice, shiny 500gb drive that i was backing up my personal files to.
Then, all of a sudden, it stopped working.
I finally got it working again (4 month later), but now have a 2tb buffalo
terastation (raid5) instead, mirrored to a couple of 500mb usb drives for an
extra level of calm.

I have a 500 gb external from hooked up to my Airport Extreme as a NAS. On the
macbook I run timecapsule that does all but continuous backup to to it. I run a
backup program on Wendy's PC and the Shuttle that kicks off at midnight and 1am
+1 million ...
