I had a really similar problem when I had the same linksys as you do. The solution was to move it away from the cable modem -- at least 6 feet.  My new router is a lot more forgiving than the Linksys was in this regard, but it's no where near as tidy and that's a big problem for a cable-tidy-neat-f
