Very true - for as well-designed as Panther is, the updates are
ham-fisted. Windows Update does a good job of looking at what you have,
then applying updates as necessary.

How do you feel about the Apple Software Update for keeping up with
the patches? I personally can't stand it. I hate that it groups
trivial updates, like a point release of iTunes for AOL users, along
with the actual security updates. So it pops up no matter the
severity.

I never really turn our iBook off, so I set up the Apple Software
Update to download updates regularly, then I decide whether they're
applicable and let them install while I do something else.
