I bought a kick-ass HP DV4000 laptop at Circuit City. They start
around 900 and go up from there depending on memory, drive space. I
maxed mine out at 1300 bucks.

You can buy a 32 bit processor from AMD now?
I didn't know they still had those on the market.
They've all shifted to the 64 bit architecture, which is the better way to go.
It is totally stable, as stable as 32 or more so because of the Do not
Execute functionality built into the chipset.
We're
I've never noticed any difference at all.

Ah, developer level machine I would definitely ignore my previous
recomendation of e-machine. I was talking more for kitchen
table/family use. I would take a trip to Best Buy or equivilant and
carry one home.

oh yeah, bought an e-machine approx. 3 years ago and have not had any issues.
I also do regular virii checks, keep it patched, make sure the kiddies
aren't downloading stuff...
worth the money, for me anyway...

Do you have a local builder in your area? I use a local San Diego shop that
is pretty cheap and I have never had problems with their systems. They might
ship to you, I don't know. Their low-low end PC is $149. Their high end for
a workstation could be well over $5,000, and they have everything in

I've bought about 30 over the last 4 years, and have only had one
failure all told. A motherboard fried when my father misinstalled a
wireless card (it EVENTUALLY fit).

If Mike Tangorre were here, he'd be MTAngry with you right now. He and
I had a conversation about this a few weeks ago.
Seriously, though, I owned one for 9 months and it just died a slow and
painful death. And it only had a 90 day warranty. I loathe eMachines
crap.
